opposes Prop 8....HOWEVER!

Wow...lots of things rollin in my head! I'll blog when i get 2 work!
Ok so I get to work and see that Connecticut has passed gay marriage. So my thoughts on this. Like any new idea that you bring onto the general public you kinda wanna crawl before walking. Somethings even deal with being decent to humans. We can look at over 400 years at how changes have been made.
From Slavery to Freedom, From Freedom to Segregation, From Segregation to Integration and from Integration to the Voting Act of 1964. Equal rights don't just happen over night.

Myself, I can appreciate seeing us stepping to the right direction. I could appreciate civil unions granting two men/women the same rights as a married couple. Drop the whole word marriage out of the equation. Years from now, people (not everyone) will numb down to the idea of marriage just being marriage. WE WILL NOT SEE THIS IN OUR LIFETIME, but we have to make positive footsteps in the right direction. Now I believe people have the right to pursue happiness. So if the direction the US is taking is not what you are looking for, then go pursue happiness....why make yourself miserable? I understand fighting for your rights, but if we can get civil unions approved, then that is a HUGE step in the right direction. I will re-iterate that we HAVE TO crawl before we walk.

400 years ago, you couldn't tell the people of America that we would have a black president. Hell 2 years ago people were saying "The US isn't ready for black president". It was joked/talked about on many TV programs. Wow....I mean WOW! I love seeing progress, and this is huge. I'd also love to see the gay community make progress....ONE STEP AT A TIME. Ok, I've said what I had to say about Prop 8 & Gay Marriage.

Sweetie...

Civil Unions are great, but they don't have the same power a marriage gives couples. Meaning if one state recognizes civil union if you move to another that doesn't then it's null and void.

The problem is the word marriage itself. Marriage, for all intensive purposes, gives couples a gaggle of privileges which is across the board...meaning the entire US recognizes it as binding and legal! We can't just settle for something that's giving us rights in just here and there...we deserve the same rights cause this is the US..."...we hold these truths to be self evident that ALL men are created equal."

True that civil right don't happen just over night...but this fight has been going on through the ages long before the bible even came into existence! Don't you think it's been long enough?

I don't care if they keep the word MARRIAGE...I could give two sh*ts! Just give me the same rights everyone else gets.

And Prop 8 is not an issue of religion or govt...it's discrimination against LOVE. Why are people so all up and arms about sh*t that doesn't concern nor impact their lives?

Saying that we will never see it in our lifetime is that apathy I feel so many gay men have that I for one am sick of. I'm glad about the little victories but we shouldn't settle for those...we deserve more!

Hey Luvlies,

Ok so your answer further goes into my point of progression. One state recognizes it, but another doesn't...hmmm...remind you of the mason-dixon line? How many states recognized African-Americans as free citizens? That's what the civil war was about!

So if some states grant all civil unions the same rights as a married couple, I'm all for it! I'm all for California today, Arizona tomorrow. That's progress! But as for ALL or NOTHING, hell no! Not so much! BABY STEPS, BABE....Baby Steps.

You say this fight has been going on through ages before the bible. Well shit! it's legal in a lot of countries around Europe, but if we stick to the US lets keep it real. You pick 1607 is when we colonized in Jamestown...No lets go 1776. When America split from GB and went on its own. When did we start the Gay Rights movement?

Also regardless of how you feel, prop 8 has a lot to do with religion. If you are going to redefine the word marriage, you are asking a lot of bible thumpers to be on the same sheet of music as you. These are the same people who believe the earth is 6000 years old and evolution happens on in SCI-FILMS. Remember how super super close minded people can be. But it's cool, cuz Jesus loves ya smart or dumb ^_^

Prop 8 also addresses gov't in terms of tax breaks, medical...and what does gov't represent? The people so egh...it sorta kinda does.

I think that for 70% of the black people in California to vote against Prop 8 is somewhat hypocritical. But to each his own, that's the beauty of America. DEMOCRACY!

Lastly babe....settle and embrace those little victories...winning battles helps you win the war. If you get enuf people to drink koolaid, you get what want. I mean Joseph Smith did it! Shit! Look how many mormons we got! LOL!

Haha! I think the Mormon comment was just for me. :)

It's interesting to hear you guys debate this. I have a question though, if a marriage is recognized in one state, does that mean that it's necessarily recognized in another? I honestly don't know! Maybe there's a law that says specifically. Do you guys know the answer to that one? I'd be interested.

Like if my sister wants to get married to her girlfriend in OR and she goes to CT, maybe even moving there to make it legit so she can get married before she has kids, can she then move back to OR and still have that marriage be recognized? It's an interesting connundrum.

Anyway, I hope you get everything you want and deserve. I know far too many sweet, in love couples that are just longing for the option. I think it's ridiculous that you can't have the security that a state/societal marriage lends to a relationship.

Smooches, dears!

LOL! U r my favorite ex-mormon sweetie! ~*muAh*~...marriages would only be recognized by each individual state (so far). I don't think that the constitution will be amended but so long as we can get states to divy out "Equal Rights" it will be recognized by states that recognize gay marriages. It's so stoopid that other people hafta have an opinion on something that does NOT effect their everyday lives! Thanks for the comments luvly! MUAH!!! I miss ya soo much!
I think I'm gonna buy a power button polo to just wear around the house every now and then ^_^
